Millennial Light LibraryBOARD RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENTSeptember 2004 The newly created Millennial Light Library, an independent, nonprofit alternative library is growing at the speed of light and is seeking more board members to fulfill its mission. This progressive library is devoted to providing information on social responsibility, sustainable living, justice & equality, ecological & environmental well-being, economic and political transformation, peace studies, alternative health, spirituality, and much more. A physical library, cyberlibrary, salon and veggie-oil-run bookmobile are in the plans. Committed, creative, thinking, and inspired board members meet monthly and participate in committees, do fundraising and are the directors, keepers, nurturers and navigators of the organization. We are seeking individuals with a commitment to sustainability issues and progressive causes from all walks of life to serve on our governing board, so that we may build a local community resource of tremendous value. We are seeking people who have the following qualities:
Special competencies are highly valued but not required. We seek individuals with expertise or experience in nonprofit management, nonprofit board experience, strategic planning, public relations, fundraising, fiscal planning and management, librarianship, community networking and legal matters. Initial term of service on the governing board is for one year, with a possibility of extended service. The MLL board is a working, proactive board, and besides the monthly board meeting, board members are active on committees and participate in fundraising, etc. The first three months are a courtship period to ensure that there is harmony of vision and compatibility in working in a collective environment. Besides serving a worthy cause, the opportunity to serve on our board allows you to gather important skills in nonprofit management, expand your network of progressive allied organizations/people, and have a fulfilling (and fun) experience in the process. Our board max is 9 members and so we have a limited number of positions available. Selection for board seats will be made by the current board on a case by case basis according to the criteria noted above. If selected, the new board member will receive an orientation, and a mentor….and jump on board as quickly as possible to get in the thick of it, which is the best orientation there is.
